Age 6

Act Like a Bug

This activity will get kids observing nature and they will get drawing practice. They will need an outdoor space to observe and need to be able to draw basic shapes.

Counting Birds

Count birds through your window. What shapes do you see? What colors?

Find Shapes in Animals

This activity has kids look for animals (or bugs) and find the shapes in their bodies. It requires them to be able to recognize simple shapes (ex., circle, square, triangle). If they can’t find an animal, they can use an example from online.

Make a Game of Charades

This activity will have kids make a game that involves recognizing and naming several animals of their choice and playing it somewhat similarly to charades. Kids will need to be able to recognize simple animals.

Make an Outdoor Map

This activity will help to create a map of an area near your home or any other place. This activity may be difficult for young kids, but you may adapt it by making the map more simplistic. You will need to be able to walk around and study the area.

Make Shadow Shapes

This activity will have kids gather whatever natural objects they can find and create something with them. Then they will use those objects to create a piece of something that they will then put behind a light to make a fun little shadow.

Observe Trees

Look at the trees right outside your window. How are they different? How are they the same?

Study an Animal

This activity will have kids pick an animal and try to understand it. Then they can make a story with their animal as the main character.
