Silver Award 2025

Fidgets for the Elderly

By: Mary, Eleanor, and Kayla

Our Story

We come from a multi-aged troop. Us, being some of the oldest of the troop, have shaped our troop to be what it is today.

As Cadettes and Seniors, being part of our Girl Scout troop has shaped who we are as leaders, friends, and changemakers. Over the years, we’ve learned how to plan, collaborate, and serve others — lessons that inspired our Silver Award project: creating fidget items for the elderly.

Through our time in Girl Scouts, we discovered how powerful small acts of kindness can be. When we started learning about memory care and how fidget items can bring comfort and calm to seniors, we knew this was a way we could make a real difference. Using the skills we’ve gained from our troop — creativity, problem-solving, and teamwork — we designed and made fidget blankets, boards, and tools to share with local nursing homes.

This project taught us patience, empathy, and the importance of giving back to our community. It also reminded us how our journey as Girl Scouts has prepared us to lead with compassion. From earning badges and guiding younger scouts to working together on this meaningful project, every experience has helped us grow into more confident and caring young women.

Our Silver Award project is more than just something we made — it’s a reflection of everything Girl Scouts has taught us: to see a need, take action, and make the world a better place.
